Just Cause, released in 2006, is an open-world action-adventure game developed by Swedish studio Avalanche Studios and published by Eidos Interactive. Serving as the inaugural installment in the Just Cause series, the game was made available on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 2, Xbox, and Xbox 360. The game's expansive world spans over 1,024 square kilometers, boasting 21 main story missions and more than 300 additional side missions.

Gameplay:

The narrative of Just Cause commences in 2006, centering around Rico Rodriguez, an operative affiliated with a mysterious organization known as the "Agency." Rico is tasked with infiltrating the Caribbean island nation of San Esperito to rendezvous with his mentor and Agency superior, Tom Sheldon. Their mission is to overthrow the island's dictator, President Salvador Mendoza, whom the Agency suspects of harboring weapons of mass destruction. Rico joins forces with Sheldon and fellow agent Maria Kane, aligning themselves with a guerrilla group and the Rioja drug cartel, both of which are staging a rebellion against Mendoza's oppressive regime and the Montano drug cartel, which has expanded its operations through the government's corruption.

The bulk of the game revolves around Rico's efforts to dismantle Mendoza's rule, neutralize the Black Hand mercenaries hired to suppress the populace, and combat the cartels. Rico can also aid in liberating various territories to further destabilize the government's grip on the island.

Eventually, Sheldon confirms that Mendoza indeed possesses WMDs, forcing the president to retreat to his private island. In a bid to prevent Mendoza from deploying the weapons, Sheldon and Kane transport Rico to the island, leading to a confrontation in which Rico boards Mendoza's jet and eliminates the dictator and his remaining guards, thereby ending his oppressive regime and enabling the Agency to secure the WMDs.

The game's core gameplay melds elements of a third-person shooter and a driving simulator, set within a vast open world ripe for exploration. On foot, players can walk, swim, jump, wield weapons, and engage in basic hand-to-hand combat. The game also offers control over various vehicles, such as cars, boats, aircraft, helicopters, and motorcycles. Additionally, players can execute daring stunts, like leaping from the roof of one moving vehicle to another or deploying their parachute while atop a moving car.
